These irresistibly soft cinnamon sugar pretzels are a homemade treat that combines buttery richness with the warm sweetness of cinnamon sugar. Perfect as a snack, dessert, or fun baking project.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) warm water
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cups (1L) water
  • 1/4 cup (60g) baking soda
  • 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Additional melted butter for coating

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water and melted butter. Stir until a dough forms.
  2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic, or use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5 minutes.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 18 inches (45cm) long, then shape into a pretzel.
  5. Bring water and baking soda to a boil. Dip each pretzel in the boiling water for 30 seconds, then place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the pretzels for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. While the pretzels are still warm, brush them with melted butter and generously sprinkle with a mixture of brown sugar and ground cinnamon.

Notes

Don’t skip the baking soda bath—it gives the pretzels their chewy texture and golden color. Be generous with the cinnamon sugar coating for maximum flavor.
