These fudgy galaxy-inspired brownie hearts combine deep chocolate flavor with vibrant swirls of blues, purples, and pinks, perfect for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Gel food coloring (blue, purple, pink, white)
  • Optional: edible glitter or star-shaped sprinkles
  • Optional: 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your heart-shaped pan with butter or non-stick spray, then line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Melt the butter gently either in a microwave-safe bowl or over a double boiler. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the granulated sugar and eggs together until smooth and slightly thickened, about 2-3 minutes with a hand mixer.
  4. Slowly pour the melted butter into the sugar-egg mixture while continuing to beat until glossy and rich-looking.
  5. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  6. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet batter using a spatula. Stop as soon as the flour disappears to keep the brownies fudgy.
  7. Divide the batter into 4 small bowls. Add different gel food coloring drops to each bowl—blue, purple, pink, and leave one plain white. Stir gently until vibrant colors form.
  8. Spoon dollops of each colored batter alternately into the prepared pan. The more random, the better the cosmic effect.
  9. Use a toothpick or skewer to swirl the colors together gently, creating swoops and loops to mimic galaxies without overmixing.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  11. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before cutting into hearts.
  12. Optional: Sprinkle edible glitter or star-shaped sprinkles on top before serving.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep brownies fudgy. Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without thinning the batter. Cool brownies completely before cutting for clean slices. If batter is too thick after coloring, add a teaspoon of milk to loosen it.
