These soft heart-shaped cookies feature a warm, gooey Nutella center, perfect for cozy moments and sweet indulgence. Simple to make with pantry staples, they are a crowd-pleaser for all ages.

  • 2 ½ cups (315 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup (170 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (150 grams) Nutella, chilled slightly

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until the dough just comes together. Do not overmix.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Scoop the Nutella into small balls (about 1 teaspoon each) and freeze for at least 15 minutes.
  8. Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch (6 mm) thickness.
  9. Use a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out double the number of cookies needed (half for the base, half for the top).
  10. Place half of the cut-out cookies on the baking sheet. Add a Nutella ball in the center of each, then top with another cookie and press gently around the edges to seal.
  11. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but centers remain soft.
  12. Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill both the dough and Nutella balls to prevent leaking. Press edges firmly to seal cookies well. Use parchment paper or silicone mats to prevent sticking. Do not overbake; soft centers are ideal. Dough can be refrigerated up to 24 hours before use.
