Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and stems trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko works best for extra crunch)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms using a damp paper towel to remove any dirt. Trim the stems if necessary.
  2. In one bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. In a second bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
  3. Coat each mushroom in the seasoned flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally roll in the breadcrumbs until evenly coated.
  4. In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat enough oil to cover the mushrooms. The oil should reach 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully place the breaded mushrooms into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to remove the mushrooms from the oil and place them on paper towels to absorb excess grease.
  7. In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, parsley, dill, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  8. Arrange the mushrooms on a platter with the herb dip in the center. Serve immediately for the best crunch.

Notes

For best results, fry mushrooms in batches to avoid overcrowding and ensure even cooking. Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
