This recipe delivers perfectly crispy skin salmon with a sweet and savory honey garlic glaze, cooked quickly and easily in an air fryer. It’s a fuss-free, flavorful dish ideal for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 skin-on salmon fillets (6 oz / 170g each), fresh or thawed
  • 3 tablespoons honey, raw or regular
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce, low sodium preferred
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced fresh
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon freshly cracked ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Pat the salmon dry thoroughly with paper towels to ensure crispiness (about 2 minutes).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, black pepper, and salt until smooth. Set aside (5 minutes).
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and run empty for 3 minutes.
  4. Brush a thin layer of glaze on both sides of each fillet, avoiding flooding the skin side to keep it crisp. Season lightly with salt (3 minutes).
  5. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down in the air fryer basket, ensuring pieces do not touch for even cooking.
  6. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 7-9 minutes depending on thickness, until salmon flakes easily but remains moist inside. Skin should be golden and crispy.
  7. Remove salmon carefully, brush with remaining glaze, then air fry for an additional 1-2 minutes to caramelize the glaze. Watch closely to prevent burning (2 minutes).
  8. Let the salmon rest for a few minutes before serving to allow juices to redistribute and glaze to settle.

Notes

Patting the salmon dry is essential for crispy skin. Avoid applying too much glaze before cooking to prevent sogginess; add more glaze after cooking to caramelize. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. If garlic browns too quickly, reduce glaze amount or add garlic halfway through cooking. For gluten-free, substitute soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheat gently in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
