Crispy Monte Cristo Roll-Ups - featured image

These Crispy Monte Cristo Roll-Ups are a fun, bite-sized twist on the classic sandwich, featuring gooey melted cheese, smoky ham, and a crispy golden crust. Perfect for parties or quick snacks!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of soft sandwich bread (white or brioche)
  • 8 slices of deli ham (smoked or honey ham)
  • 8 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Raspberry jam for dipping

Instructions

  1. Trim the crusts off 8 slices of sandwich bread. Use a rolling pin to flatten each slice until it’s thin but not tearing.
  2. Place one slice of deli ham and one slice of Swiss cheese on each piece of flattened bread. Roll tightly starting from one end, pressing gently to seal the seam.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 large eggs and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of butter. Dip each roll-up into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated, then place it seam-side down in the heated skillet.
  5. Cook each roll-up for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden and crispy. Use a spatula to carefully turn them over.
  6. Remove from the skillet and place the roll-ups on a serving platter. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with raspberry jam for dipping.

Notes

[‘Flatten the bread evenly to avoid tearing.’, ‘Seal the roll-ups well to keep them intact during frying.’, ‘Fry the roll-ups in batches to ensure even cooking.’, ‘Monitor the heat to avoid burning the roll-ups.’, ‘Use room temperature butter for even coating in the skillet.’]
