  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened (full-fat)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 cup (100g) crushed pretzels or crackers
  • Black olive slice (optional, for the Death Star’s superlaser detail)

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese by leaving it at room temperature for 10 minutes or microwaving in 10-second bursts until just soft but not melted.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded sharp cheddar, garlic powder, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and chopped parsley. Stir until fully incorporated and smooth.
  3. Lay out a large piece of plastic wrap. Spoon the cheese mixture onto the center, then use the wrap to mold it into a ball about 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter. Make sure it’s compact.
  4. Transfer the wrapped cheese ball to the fridge and chill for 20 minutes to firm up the shape.
  5. Remove the chilled cheese ball from plastic wrap and roll it in crushed pretzels or crackers until fully coated.
  6. Use a small knife or toothpick to carve a shallow circle on one side of the ball to mimic the Death Star’s superlaser dish. Place a black olive slice inside this circle for the finishing touch.

Notes

Chill the cheese ball twice for best shape and firmness. Use fresh shredded cheese for best texture. Crush pretzels to small chunks but not dust for crunch. Don’t skip Worcestershire sauce for flavor depth. Let cheese ball sit at room temperature 15 minutes before serving for best spreadability. Avoid freezing to maintain texture.
