A quick and easy breakfast bowl featuring thick Greek yogurt topped with ripe banana slices and bittersweet dark chocolate chunks, balancing indulgence with health.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) Greek yogurt, plain or vanilla-flavored, full-fat or low-fat
  • 1 large ripe banana, sliced
  • 1 oz (28 g) dark chocolate, roughly chopped (70% cocoa recommended)
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) chia seeds (optional)
  • Handful of raw nuts such as almonds or walnuts (optional)
  • A few drops of vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Scoop 1 cup (240 ml) of Greek yogurt into your serving bowl. If desired, stir in a few drops of vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of honey or maple syrup for extra flavor. Mix gently until smooth but do not over-stir.
  2. Peel and slice one large ripe banana into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick. Handle gently if very ripe.
  3. Using a sharp knife, roughly chop 1 ounce (28 g) of dark chocolate into small chunks or shavings.
  4. Arrange the banana slices evenly over the yogurt. Sprinkle the chopped dark chocolate on top. If using, scatter a tablespoon (15 ml) of chia seeds and a handful of raw nuts for crunch and nutrition.
  5. Drizzle a little extra honey or maple syrup on top if you like sweeter bites. Optionally, add a pinch of cinnamon or a few fresh mint leaves for aroma.
  6. Serve immediately for the best texture.

Notes

Serve immediately for best texture. Chocolate softens slightly from banana warmth but does not fully melt. For a cold treat, chill yogurt before assembling and add toppings just before eating. Toast nuts or chia seeds lightly for added flavor. Prepare banana slices and chop chocolate the night before to save time, storing banana slices with lemon juice to prevent browning.
