Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 plain or everything bagels, sliced in half
  • 1 cup (240 ml) pizza or marinara sauce
  • Pinch of garlic powder
  • Pinch of dried oregano
  • 2 cups (about 200 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 20 pepperoni slices (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • Optional toppings: sliced olives, diced bell peppers, cooked sausage crumbles, mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the bagels in half horizontally and lay them cut side up on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Brush the cut sides lightly with olive oil.
  4. Toast the bagels in the oven for 5 minutes until just starting to get golden.
  5. While bagels toast, mix the tomato sauce with garlic powder and dried oregano in a small bowl.
  6. Remove bagels from oven and spread about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of sauce on each half.
  7. Sprinkle about ½ cup (50 g) shredded mozzarella cheese on each bagel half.
  8. Add pepperoni slices or chosen toppings.
  9. Sprinkle dried oregano or Italian seasoning and grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  10. Bake for another 8-10 minutes at 400°F (200°C) until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Remove from oven and let cool for 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

Toast bagels first to prevent sogginess. Use freshly shredded cheese for best melt. Avoid overloading sauce to keep bagels crispy. Broil for 1-2 minutes at the end for extra browning if desired. Can customize toppings for dietary needs or preferences.
