A simple and flavorful slow cooker honey glazed ham recipe that delivers tender, juicy meat with a sticky, sweet, and tangy glaze perfect for family dinners and holidays.

Ingredients

  • Bone-in ham (about 4-5 pounds / 1.8-2.3 kg), preferably smoked and fully cooked
  • Honey (½ cup / 120 ml)
  • Dijon mustard (¼ cup / 60 ml), yellow mustard can be used as substitute
  • Brown sugar (⅓ cup / 70 g), light or dark
  • Cloves (¼ teaspoon ground or 6 whole cloves)
  • Apple cider vinegar (2 tablespoons / 30 ml)
  • Water (½ cup / 120 ml)
  • Optional: splash of orange juice or pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Remove any packaging from the ham and pat it dry with paper towels. If using whole cloves, stud them evenly into the ham surface (about 6 cloves spaced out).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine honey, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and ground cloves (if not using whole cloves). Whisk until smooth and set aside.
  3. Pour water into the slow cooker insert to create steam and keep the ham moist. Place the ham inside, flat side down.
  4. Brush about half of the glaze all over the ham, covering the surface well. Reserve the rest for basting later.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours. About halfway through, brush the ham with the remaining glaze to build up a sticky, caramelized coating.
  6. Check that the ham is heated through and tender. Use a meat thermometer to check internal temperature—aim for around 140°F (60°C) if reheating precooked ham.
  7. Carefully remove the ham from the slow cooker and let it rest on a cutting board for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

Use low and slow cooking to keep ham juicy. Add water to create steam and prevent drying. Apply glaze twice for best caramelization. Rest ham before slicing to retain juices. Glaze can be simmered in a saucepan if too thin. Optional additions include orange juice, cayenne pepper, or bourbon for flavor variations.
