A stunning and easy holiday appetizer that arranges simple cheeses, fruits, nuts, and crackers into a festive Christmas tree centerpiece perfect for holiday entertaining.

Ingredients

  • Sharp cheddar, sliced (for the tree branches)
  • Brie wheel (for the tree base or star centerpiece)
  • Goat cheese log, sliced
  • Blue cheese crumbles (optional)
  • Assorted crackers (multigrain, water crackers)
  • Mini baguette slices, toasted
  • Green grapes (to mimic pine berries)
  • Red grapes or pomegranate seeds (for festive ornaments)
  • Cherry tomatoes or sliced radishes
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • Almonds or walnuts
  • Kalamata olives
  • Honey or fig jam

Instructions

  1. Slice the sharp cheddar into thin, elongated triangles to mimic pine tree branches.
  2. Cut the goat cheese log into rounds about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Place the brie wheel at the bottom center of the serving board to act as the base or a star at the top if preferred.
  4. Layer the cheddar slices in overlapping rows above the base, forming a triangle shape about 10 inches tall and 7 inches wide, fanning out like pine branches.
  5. Scatter the goat cheese rounds and blue cheese crumbles between cheddar slices to add texture and color variation.
  6. Place green grapes along the edges as pine berries and add red grapes or pomegranate seeds sporadically to mimic Christmas tree ornaments.
  7. Tuck in cherry tomatoes or radish slices for extra pops of red and crunch.
  8. Strategically place fresh rosemary sprigs in and around the cheese layers to replicate pine needles.
  9. Fill small bowls with almonds, walnuts, and Kalamata olives and position them around the board or nestle a few nuts directly on the cheese.
  10. Fan out crackers and toasted baguette slices around the tree’s edges, stacking some vertically for height and dimension.
  11. Drizzle honey or place a small jar of fig jam on the side for guests to sweeten their bites.
  12. Adjust colors and textures as needed to maintain a festive and balanced look.

Notes

Keep cheeses at room temperature before assembling for best flavor and easier slicing. Use a sharp knife to avoid crushing cheeses. Assemble close to serving time for freshness. Substitute ingredients to accommodate dietary needs such as gluten-free crackers or vegan cheeses.
