Easy, colorful fruit skewers perfect for bright brunches, combining juicy berries, citrus, and tropical fruit for a refreshing treat that pairs beautifully with sparkling wine or juice.

Ingredients

  • Fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • Pineapple chunks, fresh or canned in juice, drained
  • Green grapes, seedless
  • Orange segments, peeled and pith removed
  • Kiwi slices, peeled and cut into rounds
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Wooden skewers, about 6-inch length
  • Chilled sparkling wine or champagne (dry brut style recommended)
  • Orange juice, freshly squeezed if possible

Instructions

  1. Rinse all fruit well under cool water. Hull and halve the strawberries, peel and segment the oranges carefully to remove white pith, slice the kiwi into quarter-inch rounds, and drain the pineapple chunks if using canned. Keep grapes whole and seedless.
  2. Take a skewer and thread the fruit in an appealing pattern: start with a strawberry half, then a grape, followed by a pineapple chunk, an orange segment, and a kiwi slice. Repeat depending on skewer length but leave about an inch at the end for handling. Mix colors and textures for visual appeal.
  3. Lay the skewers on a serving platter. If desired, tuck fresh mint leaves between fruit pieces or sprinkle on top for aroma. Refrigerate the platter for at least 10 minutes to chill and let flavors meld.
  4. Set out chilled sparkling wine or champagne alongside a pitcher of fresh orange juice. Guests can dip the skewers into their drinks or enjoy sipping and nibbling side by side.
  5. Before serving, gently pat skewers dry with a paper towel if any fruit juice has pooled to avoid sogginess. Keep assembled skewers refrigerated until just before serving.

Notes

Soak wooden skewers in water for 10 minutes before use to prevent splintering. Assemble skewers close to serving time to prevent fruit browning and sogginess. Use firm, ripe fruit for best texture. For non-alcoholic options, substitute sparkling wine with sparkling water or lemon-lime soda. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours but are best fresh.
