A quick and elegant appetizer featuring warm goat cheese melted on toasted baguette slices topped with sweet fig jam, perfect for parties, brunch, or cozy nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) rounds
  • 8 ounces (225 g) creamy goat cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) fig jam
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary sprigs for garnish (optional)
  • Honey for drizzling (optional)
  • Freshly ground cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) rounds. If very fresh and soft, let sit uncovered for 10 minutes to firm up.
  3. Brush each slice lightly with olive oil on both sides.
  4. Arrange the slices in a single layer on a baking sheet without overlapping.
  5. Toast in the oven for about 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crunchy.
  6. While the bread toasts, soften the goat cheese in a small bowl and stir gently. Add cracked black pepper if desired.
  7. Remove the baguette slices and let them cool slightly; they should still be warm but not hot.
  8. Spread a generous layer of goat cheese on each crostini.
  9. Add a spoonful of fig jam on top of each cheese layer, balancing the amount to complement without overpowering.
  10. Optionally, garnish with fresh thyme or rosemary sprigs and a light drizzle of honey. Add a final crack of black pepper.
  11. Serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

Keep goat cheese at room temperature for at least 15 minutes before spreading for smoother texture. Brush olive oil lightly to achieve perfect crunch. Avoid overloading fig jam to prevent soggy bread. Toast bread slices ahead and add toppings just before serving to keep crostini crisp. For a smoky flavor, grill the baguette slices instead of baking.
