These mini Caprese skewers are a simple, fresh, and no-cook party appetizer perfect for crowds. Featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and a tangy balsamic glaze, they come together quickly and impress guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pints (about 500g) cherry tomatoes
  • 16 oz (450g) fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini)
  • 1 bunch (about 30 leaves) fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) balsamic glaze
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 3040 wooden toothpicks or small skewers

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cherry tomatoes and pat them dry. Slice each one in half.
  2. Drain the mozzarella balls well on paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  3. Place halved tomatoes in a mixing bowl, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle salt and freshly cracked black pepper, then toss gently to coat.
  4. Assemble the skewers by layering one half of a cherry tomato (cut side facing out), one mozzarella ball, then a fresh basil leaf folded in half. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  5. Right before serving, drizzle the balsamic glaze over the skewers using a spoon or squeeze bottle for even coverage.

Notes

Use firm cherry tomatoes to avoid sogginess. Dry mozzarella thoroughly before assembling. Assemble skewers just before serving to keep basil fresh. Homemade balsamic glaze can be made by simmering 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar with 1 tablespoon sugar until thickened (about 10 minutes).
